Bulwell Bus Station Redevelopment
In 2023, Bulwell Bus Station in Nottingham underwent a £900,000 redevelopment, transforming it into a modern, sustainable transport hub.
Funded by the UK’s Transforming Cities Fund and managed by Nottingham City Council, the project aimed to enhance the passenger experience, improve accessibility, and support environmental goals. The newly redesigned station features solar-powered lighting on bus shelters, reducing energy costs and environmental impact. Real-time information displays and additional seating options were added to improve convenience for all passengers, including those with varying mobility needs.

The layout of the bus stops was reorganised into a “saw-tooth” design, facilitating smoother traffic flow for buses and providing more space for pedestrians.
Planters with pollinator-friendly plants were incorporated to enhance local biodiversity and create a greener environment. The station’s grand reopening in May 2023 was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting by Olympian Emily Campbell, marking it as a welcoming gateway to Bulwell for the 1.1 million passengers who rely on it annually. This redevelopment reflects Nottingham’s ongoing commitment to improving public transportation infrastructure and promoting sustainable travel options within the city.
